Album facts and playmates
1. "All Blues":
Piano and
harmonica player Mats Öberg was early discovered by Frank Zappa and joined
Zappa´s group
for concerts in USA and Europe. 2. "I Got It Bad": In the 60´s
Brother Jack McDuff with his band visited Sweden. On the
guitar he had the young
George Benson. This visit made impressions on us young jazz musicains and you
can still hear
that in some of our music. Pierre Swärd is the Hammond player
in Sweden who best can handle the organ bass with his
feet. 3. "Winds Over Tannisby": Jonny Johansson is a Swedish 9-string guitar player
who
moved to USA many decades
ago to be educated. Now he is a doctor of music living
in the Bronx, N Y C. He has recorded with splendid American
musicains, e.g.
George Garzone. On this tune we have distorted my alto flute sound a bit to make
it similar to an electric
guitar. 4. "All Of Me": The young
guitar player
Andreas Öberg is one of the European stars playing in the gipsy style of
jazz,
created by the French guitarist Django Reinhart. 5. "All The Things You
Are". This arrangement is a mixture of jazz and
classical music. It´s a sort of
conversation between a
classical and a jazz
flutist. The classical flutist is Jerker Halldén.
6. "Monk Delight": We
really like the way bass player Slam Stewart used the bow and how he hummed to
it. This tune is
an effort to recapitulate some of that feeling.
The bassist
Lasse Ekström is on the right track. 7. "Sweet
And Lovely".
This tune is
played as a duet by many musicains. This is a seldom heard version by
two
flute players: Urban Hansson and
Staffan Hallgren. 8. "Take The A-Train":
The drumming buddy, Uffe Flink, brushes on his practice pad to create a
tap- toe
like support in this tune. 9. "Body And Soul":
One of
Sweden´s top reed players, Jonas Kullhammar, is here the ´annoyed
neighbour´ coming in to express his discontent. For this purpose he uses his
bass saxophone.
10. "Flute Fascination":
We really like the sound of the
boat engine. Makes us think
about
Buddy Rich.
